Daniel Reetz gave a great talk at the open hardware summit and then I
spent some time chatting with him at Maker Faire. I think from the whole
weekend this is the project i'm most likely to get involved with: I for
one lug around about 20kg of old notebooks every time I move and i'd
love to get them digitized. I also made a lot of use of book scanners at
the Rotch Library back in the day, which had OCR, pdf generation, and
easy email features. I think every library should have a book scanning
station for patrons to make use of; i'm sure there are copyright
concerns with people scanning in whole books and posting them to the
net, but that shouldn't be an impediment to an important and useful
service.
